Airports

The closest airport to the venue and San Francisco is San Francisco International Airport (SFO), just a 12 minute drive from San Mateo, where the wedding will be, and 17 minutes from downtown San Francisco.

Oakland International Airport (OAK) is another option 30 minutes from either downtown San Francisco or San Mateo.

San Jose Mineta International Airport (SJC) is located 30 minutes from San Mateo and 40 minutes from downtown SF.

Transportation

If you are only planning on staying in San Francisco for the weekend, renting a car is not necessary! SF offers BART (subway), Muni (rail line), and bus systems for traveling around the city and to some surrounding neighborhoods, such as the East and South Bay. If you are up for hills, SF is a very walkable city, and you will be rewarded with stunning views! Rideshare options are also readily available (see: self-driving cars??). If you plan on exploring other parts of the Bay Area, a rental car is necessary. A shuttle will transport guests to and from San Francisco the day of the wedding. Valet parking is available at the wedding venue for guests who elect to drive.

Our Registry

John and Katarina met on Hinge meet on Hinge in August 2019, 2 months after Katarina graduated from UC Berkeley and moved to Chicago to begin her two-year teaching position through Teach for America, and 1 year after John graduated from University of Wisconsin and moved to Chicago to work in commercial real estate. After a brief online conversation, John asked Katarina out to dinner at Homeslice for pizza. The two hit it off immediately and ended up closing down the restaurant after a 4-hour dinner. John was leaving to visit his mother in Florida the next day for a week, but the two immediately made plans to see each other again when he returned.	The next few months consisted of dates to local breweries, dive bars, Broadway and comedy shows, and scary movies, and they ended up falling in love.

After Katarina graduated from law school and took the Illinois Bar Exam in the summer of 2024, and John had been working at JP Morgan for a few years, they moved in together in their favorite Chicago neighborhood: Wicker Park.

Moving in Together

On August 1, 2025, John took Katarina to one of their favorite spots in the midwest, New Buffalo, Michigan, under the guise of celebrating John's mother's birthday for a weekend in their "cabin in the woods." After dinner on Friday night, John suggested he and Katarina watch the sunset over Lake Michigan at New Buffalo Beach. Sitting in the sand along the water, John proposed to Katarina and surprised her with a sunset cruise.
